St Luke's hosts several Research Committee Groups, including the Clinical Research & Development Committee (CRDC), the Clinical Audit & Research Group (CARG) and Papers to Patients (P2P).
The Clinical Audit and Research Group (CARG):
This group ensures all research, audits, service evaluations, and quality improvements projects follow the correct procedures to ensure compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements. Acting on behalf of the Clinical Research and Development Committee (CRDC) and the Board of Trustees, CARG provides the oversight to ensure the relevant governance is adhered to while safeguarding all projects fit with St Luke’s vision and values. Additionally, we set up and track a schedule of audits, ensuring accurate completion, review and timely resolution of any findings.
Clinical Research and Development Committee (CRDC):
This group is responsible for ensuring the Board of Trustees are kept informed about all clinical research at St Luke’s, including planning, reviewing, funding, and managing research projects carried out here or by our staff. The group help set the overall direction for research, focusing on new developments, local expertise, and areas where research is most needed. We also oversee St Luke’s plans for innovation and clinical development, including international work while working closely with other committees. Importantly, this group is the principal stakeholder of the Wilkes Institute, which covers three key areas: research, education within the organisation, and development outside the organisation.
Papers 2 Patients (P2P):
This group provides an opportunity for staff to learn how to use evidence in practice by asking clinical questions, searching for information, and reviewing research critically. It also helps staff build confidence in presenting their ideas and getting feedback in an informal setting. The aim is to share new findings, teach staff how to find the best research to guide care and services, and encourage them to read and assess articles carefully. St Luke’s supports its workforce to participate in research and when needed shows them how to do it. Along the way, the group helps improve debating and leadership skills and supports peer mentoring. The format of the P2P group is problem-based learning, where a presenter chooses a topic and gives a presentation to colleagues.
More information about these groups including upcoming dates, agenda items, speakers and committee members is coming soon.
