Isilda’s love of great food makes a tasty fundraiser

15 February 2022

A lifelong love of cookery has given Isilda Del Carmen Lang a tasty approach to fundraising for our patient care.

The Pitsmoor childminder is being supported by our Community team, who have sourced the assistance she needs to continue living in her Scott Road home as she continues her fight with cancer.

That is why Isilda’s family has launched their own Justgiving page to raise money for St Luke’s.

And Isilda has taken a lifetime’s culinary experience and turned it into a book - Isilda, Food, Home - which is now online and in print.

Isilda is originally from Chile but came to Sheffield in the early 1970s as a refugee from the country’s political regime, following Chile’s military coup.

She settled in the city, married husband Jamie in 1979 and had her own family - sons Jamito and Stephen and grandchildren Ana May, Aaron, Naia and Theo.

She also became well known as a childminder to several generations of Sheffield children and was the face of St James' Parents and Toddlers.

It was friends from all those decades of caring who have helped Isilda to put together a cookbook, stemming from the idea of their children loving her food when they were in her care.

Alongside some of Isilda’s own favourites are also recipes that have been provided by some of the children she has known over the years.

The book is now available online and there is also a print version, with proceeds all adding to the family’s fundraising.

“You cannot sit with Isilda for long without the conversation coming back to eating, cooking and recipes, laced with memories shared with the many friends, children and animals she has fed, cared for, and loved along the way,” said husband Jamie.

“We had heard of St Luke’s of course but it was only when Isilda was diagnosed and we were told that she needed support that we realised how helpful the Community Team would be.”

Isilda’s collection of recipes can be read at cookbook

Donations have already reached £1,659 and further gifts can be made via the family’s Justgiving page at Isilda
