STAFF at Sheffield’s Phillimore Community Primary School are putting their best feet forward as they run and walk a total of 2,750 miles in February as a fundraising tribute to friend and colleague Carol Hegyi.
Carol, who was a teacher at the Darnall school, was just 48 when she lost her fight against cancer at St Luke’s in January.
Now the rest of the Phillimore team have set themselves the sporting challenge as they aim to raise at least £2,000 to support our services.
And with the fundraising figure already standing at more than £1,700, they are well on track to smash that total.
“We originally started out with a target of £500 but when we reached £1,000 we knew we had to push to make it at least £2,000,” said fellow teacher Sophie Bell.
“We would have liked to have been able to do something together in memory of Carol but that’s obviously not been possible so we are all doing our own thing.
“Some people said they would complete 48 miles, because Carol was 48, but every distance is making a difference.
“We’ve had sun, snow and rain but we’ve all carried on and it’s made us all feel like we are doing something.”
