Quiz night fun for volunteer Gill and family

BEING in lockdown hasn’t stopped our volunteer Gill Peacock and her family and friends from giving us their support.

Gill gives time every week to being one of the St Luke’s eBay team but with that part of the operation currently suspended, Gill has come up with an entertaining alternative method of support that extends beyond Sheffield.

“To keep our spirits up in these very different times and bring some type of normality to our week we decided to create a Saturday night quiz with our family and friends which we do remotely from all our of homes via the Zoom app,” says Gill.

The fourteen teams, based in Sheffield and beyond, take it in turns to be quiz masters each week and decide the questions and challenges.

“It has given us all something to look forward to on a Saturday evening as we dress up as though we are really going out, we play our favourite songs, open a bottle of our favourite drink, get to see each others’ faces and importantly have a good laugh,” Gill explains.

There’s an entry fee of £5 per team which goes towards the Charity Prize Pot, with the victorious team then choosing which charity to donate the winnings to.

And on Saturday evening, the top scoring Robinsons team chose to donate their prize money to St Luke’s.

“For us it is a winning combination - we get to have fun again on a Saturday evening and see our family and friends, whilst also doing a bit of good in the process and helping some amazing charities,” says Gill.

“We hope sharing our story might help others to find creative ways to help charities which have been so badly affected in these unprecedented times.

“The amazing work that key workers are doing to keep this country going and save lives is both incredible and inspiring.

“We can naturally feel helpless as we stay at home but it is the least we can do to help win the battle against COVID-19.”
