Volunteer Development Manager Joy Wigfield has a double reason for being a Flu Fighter

17 October 2019

Our Volunteer Development Manager Joy Wigfield has a double reason for being a St Luke’s Flu Fighter.

“My mum is 92 years old and I feel that it is my responsibility to have the jab to protect myself and to help protect her too” Joy says.

“At her age, I wouldn’t want her to catch flu and at the same time, if I was to catch flu myself it would mean I wouldn’t be able to provide the support she needs.”

Joy is also very aware that a flu jab is also an important part of her working life as her role is a public facing one.

“In my job I am working with members of the public – our volunteers – and I know that I need to be as healthy as possible both for myself and for the people I am working with,” she says.

“You hear people give such strange reasons for not having the flu jab but I can say that I haven’t experienced any nasty side effects.

“I am very happy to do anything I can to encourage our volunteers to get their flu jab and lessen the chance of having a nasty winter infection.”
