Challenge walkers stride out in support of Master Cutler

03 June 2019

WHAT does it take to make a successful contribution to the 2019 Master Cutler’s Challenge? 18 pairs of very tired feet and lots of enthusiasm!

Teams from Shorts Chartered Accountants and law firm Irwin Mitchell hit on the same fundraising idea for supporting this year’s challenge, which is raising money for both St Luke’s and Rotherham Hospice.

The Irwin Mitchell law trainees walked from Sheffield to Rotherham and back again – a total of about 22 miles -raising a total of £855.

Laura Moss, an Irwin Mitchell trainee solicitor, commented: “It was a tough day, with the weather being against us, but all the support from both St Luke’s and Rotherham Hospice helped keep us motivated on the day.

“It’s a pleasure to do our bit for two great causes and we hope to raise much more in our upcoming events.”

The Shorts team raised £1,754 as they walked from Rotherham to Sheffield, following South Yorkshire’s famous Five Weirs Walk for much of the way.

Andy Irvine, Managing Partner of Shorts commented: “We are delighted to be a part of the 2019 Master Cutler’s Challenge.

“The sponsored walk was one of a number of events that our staff are taking part in over the summer.

“Walking between the premises of the two charities supported by this year’s fundraising seemed a logical thing to do, and everyone who took part made it to the end with just a few blisters - and one swollen ankle.”

Our Corporate Fundraising Manager Jack Kidder added: “Both teams are to be congratulated on such a fantastic contribution to their fundraising.

“I know that both companies have other events coming up over the coming weeks  as they join the many other teams across Sheffield and Rotherham all doing their best for this year’s challenge.”
