We are going out into the community this June as we prepare to take part in National Carers Week.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
And as part of the week of free events, we will be at Theatre Delicatessen on The Moor in Sheffield city centre on Wednesday June 14 from 2pm to 6.30pm and then on Saturday June 17 from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
At the two sessions there will be a chance for carers to find out more about the wide range of services and support networks available in the community along with access to practical advice, information and support of maintaining independence, health and wellbeing, relaxing with complementary therapies, meeting with other carers and enjoying a drink and a chat.
Also present will be representatives of Westfield 3rings, MIND, Stay Put, Cavendish Cancer Care, Brathay Trust, the Alzheimer’s Society and the Adult Carers’ Service.
In the days running up to National Carers’ Week there will also be a series of special mini pop up information events across the city, starting on Wednesday May 31 with an event at Meadowhall from 5pm to 7pm.
The session moves on to our City Road shop on Thursday June 1, is at the Central Library on Monday June 5, in Fargate on Tuesday, June 6, at Crystal Peaks on Thursday June 8 and back in Fargate on Monday June 12, with all sessions running from 10am to 12 noon.
“There is absolutely no need for carers to feel they are alone,” said Sarah Bowers, the head of our Allied Health Professionals department.
“Caring for someone can be extremely difficult, with normal daily life with your loved one seemingly on hold for a while – it can also be very lonely.
“Come and meet our team of experts, who can talk to you about the wide range of services on offer to help carers.
“It’s about finding out how to have time to yourself, keep yourself healthy, feel less stressed and plan for the future.”
