Record breakers aim to raise funds for three top charities

10 May 2017

FANS of the latest family friendly sporting  phenomenon are aiming to break a world record as they raise money for St Luke's and two more top charities.

Sevens Touch is a fast paced, family friendly, non-contact game based on Rugby Sevens, the variant of Rugby Union in which teams are made up of seven players playing seven-minute halves.

And on May 20 Gosforth Fields in Dronfield will be the setting for an attempt to beat the official world record for most participants in a touch rugby exhibition match.

This one game will last for almost seven hours, with each person playing for ten minutes and passing the ball at least once.

And with every participant paying £25 for their time on the pitch, all the money raised will go to St Luke’s, Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospice and Cardiac Risk in the Young.

“This is a brilliant example of the imaginative way in which people raise money for their favourite causes,” said our Community Fundraising Manager Megan Senior.

“Not only will they be taking part in an official world record attempt, they will also be making a massive difference to three charities.”
