Hospice UK chief visits for Hospice Care Week

We marked national Hospice Care Week with a visit from the Chief Executive of Hospice UK.

Hospice UK is the national champion for hospices, fighting to make sure hospice care is there for everyone.

The visit to Sheffield by Chief Executive Toby Porter gave him the opportunity to meet our new Chief Executive and Chief Nurse Jo Lenton and Medical Director and Clinical Lead for Programme Development Dr Dr Sam Kyeremateng, who has also only recently been appointed a Hospice UK trustee.

“We were delighted that in Hospice Care Week we were able to invite Toby to take a look at the work being done by St Luke’s and share our vision for the future,” said Jo.

“We talked about the national funding debate and growing momentum in parliament about the need to make changes to the funding of hospices and the importance of hospice care.

“St Luke’s has been supporting the people of Sheffield for more than 50 years and as Hospice Care Week highlights the increasing pressures being faced by all hospices, St Luke’s is working tirelessly to ensure that our services can be maintained at the highest level.

“The forthcoming launch of our first department store at Kilner Way is just one of the exciting ways that our team is ensuring our income streams remain healthy.

"And, of course, we continue to maintain a constant dialogue with the people of Sheffield – this is their hospice but it would be exist without their generous support.”
