VIRTUAL Night Strider Rachel Wright aims to raise a glass to dad Barry as she sets out on her fundraising walk in support of our patient services.
Community Psychiatric Nurse Rachel and her friend Michelle Foster have already raised more than £300 for St Luke’s before they even set out on their planned walk around Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens, through Ecclesall Woods and then down Ecclesall Road.
And Rachel does confess that there will almost certainly be a couple of stops for refreshment along the way.
“My dad would never forgive us if we didn’t stop in a pub or two!” Rachel admits.
“My dad suffered a lengthy battle with lung cancer and sadly passed away in January this year.
“He was an amazing person and the best dad I could ever wish to have and during the latter stages of his illness St Luke’s provided the best care and support we could ever want.
“They made sure dad was as comfortable as possible and listened to our concerns and worries throughout.
“I cant thank them enough for what they did for us - they are an outstanding team of selfless people from the admin to the nursing staff.”
Rachel originally set herself a fundraising target of £100 but before she sets off with Michelle she has already raised more than £300, with the figure still rising.
Night Strider is our October charity spectacular that sees supporters heading off into the night on either a 10k or walking half marathon challenge.
2020 would have marked Night Strider’s sixth anniversary but when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, a new plan had to be developed - and Night Strider has gone virtual!
The Night Strider virtual challenge - sponsored by Pricecheck and Gripple - has participants registering free of charge to do their own fundraising event any time between between now and Saturday October 31.
