Mum was so happy at St Luke’s

We feel so fortunate that mum was able to go to St Luke’s. She’d been diagnosed with a brain tumour and had spent months in and out of hospital as her condition worsened. When her consultant recommended we speak to the hospice we were all a bit nervous, to be honest, Mum especially. We’d never experienced hospice care and thought it was a case of ‘once you’re in you never leave’.

But she absolutely loved it there. The staff were so attentive to her and every day there were a dozen little things they’d do for her that just made the world of difference. Nothing was ever a problem for the nurses and if Mum needed a little bit more attention one day, well that was just fine.

Mum wanted to go home and they did a brilliant job of helping her to feel well enough to travel there. In the end, it was just for a short time – she had a seizure and it became clear she really needed to be back at St Luke’s. And we were glad, because we knew that she was getting the very best care possible.

We’ve been supporting St Luke’s with fundraising since Mum died and we’ll carry on doing so. It’s a way of saying ‘thank you’ to the incredible staff for everything they did for her – but also a way of making sure that other families like ours can have the same amazing care.’
