IN one great weekend of sport, Sheffield football fans have raised almost £12,000 for our patient care.
The sporting action started when Sheffield Wednesday fan James Lindsay – in response to some good natured ribbing from Premiership bound Sheffield United – launched a fundraising campaign on behalf of St Luke’s which raised an amazing £7,902.09 in just a few hours.
A match day collection for Wednesday’s fixture against QPR, manned by St Luke’s volunteers, then added a further £2,082.92.
And then a post-match fundraising event at the Park Hotel, just a short walk from Wednesday’s Hillsborough home, brought in an extra £1,800.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Sheffield Wednesday’s fans,” said our Community Fundraising Manager Megan Senior.
“Between them they raised an astonishing £11,785, all of which will make an enormous difference to the lives of our patients and their families.”
