Our hospitality team are busy on their feet every day delivering meals and drinks to patients and families.
But instead of sitting back and relaxing after a long shift, they’re swapping sensible shoes for trainers and hitting the road as they prepare to join the start line of the Sheffield 10k and raise vital funds for our patient care.
Hospitality assistant Lucy Gibson encouraged colleagues Tracey Kendall, Martha Saxelby Newall and Samantha Taylor to join her for the popular September 29 sporting challenge.
Tracy was so keen to sign up that she changed her holiday plans to accommodate the race and is also requesting donations to St Luke’s in lieu of gifts for her birthday.
And the fundraising bug has also bitten Martha, who is planning a dance class at her dance gym, Dance Fusion UK, to raise extra cash, while Samantha is taking on the famous Great North Run and Lucy herself is planning an extra fundraising day at the Meadowhead branch of Morrison’s supermarket on September 14.
"It's not about winning the race, it's about setting yourself a challenge and making a difference,” said Lucy.
“Seeing the impact St Luke's has on patients and their families first hand makes it all worthwhile.
“The atmosphere on the day is just incredible knowing everyone is there to support important causes and we’re all excited to be part of such a great event.”
