IT was a case of putting best feet and paws forward when Danielle Cardwell set herself a fundraising challenge in support of our patient care.
Danielle decided to devote the whole of August to walking 150 kilometres in memory of uncle Terry Dawson.
That meant many walks in the hills above her Stocksbridge home - always accompanied by pet dog Bonnie!
“My uncle was cared for by the St Luke’s Community team and we were really grateful for what they did for him,” said Danielle.
“The family have done the St Luke’s Night Strider in 2018 and 2019 - walking as Terry’s Yorkshire Puddings - but I decided I’d like to some fundraising of my own too.
“The longest distance I ever walked as part of the challenge was from where I work in Chapeltown back home to Stocksbridge, but mainly I walked locally.
“We have a trig point up near us so I walked up there and out to Bolsterstone too.”
Things did come to a halt for a week when Danielle had to self isolate following a Covid alert but she still managed to get the full 150km completed before the end of the months and she has now raised £660.
“In the end I did 23 walks and I’m over the moon to have raised so much,” said Danielle.
“I loved doing it and would do it again - but Bonnie is absolutely exhausted!”
