FRIENDS Will Gaunt and Peter Linley have already raised almost £2,000 before they even set off on their major cycling adventure.
Will and Peter chose Bonfire Night last year as the start date for a 375 mile bike ride from Sheffield to popular Cornish holiday destination Cornwall.
But when the pandemic put travel plans on hold, the friends postponed their plans and will now set off on July 15.
And before they even get pedalling, they have already raised a fantastic £1,835 which will go to St Luke’s Hospice, which supported both Will’s grandfather Ken Gaunt and Peter’s aunt, Susan Birds.
“My grandad was a St Luke’s community patient so the bike ride seems the right thing to do to give something back,” said Will.
“Every person we speak to about the ride says great things about St Luke’s and we know this is a charity that means a lot to people in Sheffield.”
The friends will set off on their five day journey on July 15, completing the first 96 miles from Sheffield to Sutton Coldfield on day one, then taking the next 73 miles to Frampton on Severn, a further 71 miles to Bridgewater, an extra 72 miles to Okehampton in Devon and then a final 63 miles to reach the finish at Newquay.
“We do go out on the bikes every now and again so we thought we’d step it up a bit and do something that could make a difference,” said Will.
“It’s going to be a challenge but we do know that it will make a difference to the lives of St Luke’s patients.”
