PATIENT Olga Bannister had a very special visitor at her bedside following the announcement of her British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Mrs Bannister received her award from The Queen’s personal representative, Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire Andrew Coombe, in a specially arranged ceremony at St Luke's.
The award to Mrs Bannister was made in recognition of her work with the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which she has supported for almost two decades.
Mrs Bannister became involved with the charity after her husband Neville was diagnosed with the condition.
“It was a privilege and a pleasure to present Mrs Bannister with her British Empire Medal,” said Mr Coombe.
“This was a very special occasion only made possible with support from St Luke's, the Bannister Family and, I must add, Buckingham Palace who went the extra mile to ensure the medal arrived ready to be presented on the day of its announcement.”
