Ann Whiteley has been working as part of the In Patient Centre nursing team since 1979…and doesn’t seem ready to leave yet!
“I stay because my day gives me 100 per pent job satisfaction,” she says. “Many things have changed over the years but the one thing that doesn’t change is the importance of the patient in everything we do.”
Having spent so long at St Luke’s however, Ann does still finds she has to dispel one of the biggest myths of hospice care.
“We really do do a lot of laughing,” she says. “Just because we are specialists in palliative care that doesn’t mean it’s all doom and gloom.”
“We have lovely experiences every day, supporting both our patients and their families.”
