"The Bidding Years”: Signed Paul Carrack items hit St Luke’s eBay. “Tempted”?
We're calling on Paul Carrack fans to head over to our eBay store for the chance to own some truly unique, signed pieces of music history.
Currently available are a one-of-a-kind signed trilby hat, worn on stage by the Mike + The Mechanics legend, alongside fifty limited-edition signed photographs – must-haves for fans of Sheffield’s “Man with the Golden Voice”.
The highest bidder for the signed trilby, worn during numerous live performances on various tours, will also receive a large 16” x 10” signed portrait of Paul backstage at Sheffield City Hall.
Also available are fifty signed 6” x 8” photographs, each listed with a Buy It Now price of £20.
The idea for the fundraising initiative came from professional photographer and St Luke’s eBay volunteer, Neil Kitson, who supports the hospice after his mum, Pauline, was cared for there at the end of her life.
This latest project by Neil, has been sponsored by Gary Batham whose best friend received care from St Luke's several years ago.
Having previously supported us through a range of photography-led fundraisers – including his limited-edition book The Ultimate Season Ticket, a photographic journey of the Sheffield Wednesday fan experience, which sold out in a week and raised over £11,000 for St Luke’s – Neil worked with Paul who was delighted to help bring the idea to life.
The photographs were taken by Neil at Sheffield City Hall and personally signed by Paul. Neil said: “I’m fortunate in my line of work, and over the years I’ve found it’s a great way to raise money for St Luke’s while giving people something they genuinely value.
“It’s particularly meaningful for me to support St Luke’s, who cared for my mother during her final year with liver cancer. Being able to give something back, while also supporting people across Sheffield, means a great deal.”
Commenting on the auction is St Luke’s E-commerce Manager, Shaun Beeden:
“Donations like this are so exciting, and every penny raised through our retail chain helps us continue caring for local people and families across Sheffield,” he said.
“If you know any music fans who would love these one-off and limited-edition items, please share far and wide to help us reach as many people as possible!”
Carrack rose to prominence in the mid-1970s as the frontman and principal songwriter of rock band Ace. He went on to achieve further success as a solo artist and as a member of Squeeze and Mike + The Mechanics from the mid-1980s onwards.
He has provided vocals on some of his bands’ best-known hits, including Ace’s “How Long” (1975), Squeeze’s “Tempted” (1981), and Mike + The Mechanics’ “The Living Years” (1988).
But “how long” will the auction be going on for? These rare items are available until 8pm on Sunday 19 July, with plenty of bidding expected before the final call.
