St Luke’s secures 6-5 win in Sheffield Stix charity ice hockey showdown
Sheffield Stix Ice Hockey Club returned to the ice this June with a special charity match in support of two of Sheffield’s much‑loved charities – St Luke’s Hospice and Weston Park Cancer Charity.
The fundraising showdown saw Team St Luke’s face Team Weston Park, resulting in a 6-5 victory for St Luke’s.
The biggest success of the evening, however, was the fundraising effort, with more than £5,500 raised to be shared between the two charities. Further match funding is also expected, increasing the total still further.
Sheffield Stix Club Coach and St Luke’s Head of Fundraising, Matthew Sheridan, was proud to be representing St Luke’s in its 55th year. He said: “A huge thank you to all the Sheffield Stix players who came together to deliver such an exciting game, all in support of St Luke's and Weston Park.”
“We had an amazing night and we're also incredibly grateful to everyone who came along to support the match and take part in fundraising activities.”
“It was also a pleasure to welcome trustees from both charities, who helped mark the occasion with the ceremonial puck drop, presented the Man of the Match, and cheered on players throughout.”
Although St Luke’s secured the win this time, he says the night was about charity. “Everyone was here to support two amazing charities that support Sheffield people when they need it most,” he continued.
“Every donation, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in ensuring that no one faces their journey alone and that St Luke’s can keep caring for the next 55 years.”
