“Running the Manchester 10k was my way of saying thank you to St Luke’s”
Rachael Dudleston completed the Manchester 10k in May this year, fundraising £804 to support our work following the care her dad received from St Luke’s.
Rachael's dad was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and was cared for by our Community Team during his illness.
“His wish was to remain at home for as long as possible. With the support of St Luke’s Hospice, he was able to do just that,” said Rachael.
While her dad was receiving care from St Luke’s, Rachael decided to take on a fundraising challenge that would support our work while providing a positive distraction.
“I signed up for the Manchester 10k as a way to focus on something positive, make my dad proud, and raise much-needed funds for St Luke’s” added Rachael.
Rachael's dad died on 29 January 2026, just nine days after she registered for the event.
“Although he wasn't here to see me complete the challenge, I carried his memory with me every step of the way. It was an emotional but brilliant day, filled with love, encouragement, and support from family, friends, and everyone who donated.”
Rachael says taking on the challenge was her way of thanking St Luke’s and helping ensure others can receive the same care.
“Running the Manchester 10k was my way of saying thank you to St Luke’s Hospice for everything they did for my dad and our family. Every donation helps them continue providing the outstanding care and support that means so much to families facing the most difficult of times.”
