Young fundraiser Poppy to run 1 mile every day in June
Eight-year-old Sheffield fundraiser Poppy Bonsall has committed to running one mile every single day throughout June to raise money for St Luke’s, after the care her Grandad received at the end of his life.
By the end of the month, Poppy will have clocked up an impressive 30 miles – roughly the distance from Sheffield to Doncaster – or almost four times the number of years she has been alive.
Come rain or shine, Poppy says she is determined to complete the challenge, which she is taking on alongside her Mum, Sarah.
Just over one week into June, Poppy has already smashed her £500 fundraising target, raising an incredible £900 so far.
Poppy and Sarah are sharing regular updates throughout the month on their JustGiving page, where they are also receiving plenty of words of encouragement from friends and family.
Speaking about her month of running – Poppy says she’s looking forward to taking on her first ever charity event.
“I am going to run one mile each day in June to raise money for St Luke's Hospice, who looked after my Grandad before he passed away,” she said.
“I would like to raise as much money as possible to help them with their work. I promise to run every day no matter the weather and will keep everyone updated with my progress throughout.”
Olivia Yates, Community Fundraiser at St Luke’s, and the rest of the St Luke’s Team are cheering on Poppy from the side lines.
“Poppy should be so proud of everything she has achieved so far, and we’re very excited to keep up to date on her journey,” she said.
“Every pound raised helps us keep caring for more people and their families across Sheffield thanks to the support of amazing people like Poppy.”
