Over the past year, members of the South Yorkshire region of ‘Rock Choir’ have combined their love of music with creative fundraising activities to raise more than £3,000 for three hospices, including over £900 for St Luke's.

The fundraising total was achieved through a range of initiatives, including a popular Strictly Come Dancing sweepstake and singing flash mobs across Sheffield, helping to support the vital care provided by local hospices.

Earlier this month, St Luke's welcomed members of the South Yorkshire Rock Choir to celebrate their fundraising success and thank them for their ongoing support.

Rock Choir is the world's largest contemporary choir, holding three Guinness World Records and bringing together more than 400 local choirs across the UK and Ireland.

One of the group's most successful fundraising activities was a Strictly Come Dancing sweepstake; an initiative where members paid to take part, and each week would follow the Strictly competition. They would find out who didn’t make it through to the next round, and who was still in with a chance of claiming the sweepstake victory.

The sweepstake has become an annual tradition for the choir, with members already looking forward to this year's series and finding out who the contestants and couples will be.

In addition to the Strictly fundraiser, choir members have also taken part in singing flash mobs across Sheffield, helping to raise money and awareness in support of St Luke's.

"Fundraising support from individuals and groups across our community is vital to St Luke's, and we simply couldn't provide our care and support without it," said Olivia Yates, St Luke's Community Fundraiser.

“The Rock Choir members have done a brilliant job showing that doing something you’re already interested in is an easy way to start fundraising and support our work,” said Olivia.

“We’re so grateful to Rock Choir members who will be continuing their support throughout the rest of the year and into the festive season."
