Marking Volunteers' Week by thanking our incredible volunteers
Monday 1 June to Sunday 7 June 2026 marks national Volunteers’ Week – a time for charities and organisations across the country to say thank you and celebrate the incredible contribution of their volunteers.
At St Luke’s, more than 1,000 volunteers are being recognised as part of our Be Part of Something Big campaign, which has been running throughout May and into early June to mark the occasion.
The campaign shines a spotlight on volunteering, encouraging people to give it a try and discover the difference they can make – while also giving thanks to the volunteers without whom St Luke’s simply couldn’t exist.
Leann Vaughan is just one of those volunteers being celebrated. She supports St Luke’s in a number of ways - volunteering at events and recently joining the Hospitality Team on the In Patient Centre.
For her, not only is it about giving back after the care her mum, Brenda, received, but it’s also a great way to do something new and meet new people.
“I’ve met so many people who have been touched by St Luke’s and are just as passionate as I am about raising vital funds to give back for the care and support provided,” she says.
“When my mum was cared for at St Luke’s, nothing was too much trouble. Everything was just perfect – it was like a comfort blanket for us,” Leann explains.
“The best part about volunteering is the feeling it gives you knowing that you are contributing when raising awareness, funds and making new friends along the way.”
And for anyone considering volunteering, her message is simple: she’d recommend it to anyone wanting to give something back.
“It’s a special feeling being part of something big, amongst very special people.”
Leah Johnson, Volunteering Team Leader at St Luke’s said: “As a charity, St Luke’s depends on the generosity of volunteers to keep providing compassionate care across Sheffield.”
“Every volunteer plays a part – whether that’s raising funds, supporting patients and families, or helping our shops thrive. Without volunteers, we couldn’t do what we do. Thank you simply isn’t enough.”
From volunteering in St Luke’s shops and at events, to patient‑facing roles or opportunities with your workplace, there’s a role to suit everyone.
