Dillon Stones is running the Sheffield 10k to raise money for St Luke’s, in memory of his grandad, Tom, who received care from the hospice last year.

Dillon said he decided to run the Sheffield 10k on Sunday 27 September 2026 to raise money to support our work and remember his grandad, who he describes as “a larger-than-life character”.

“The care my grandad received from St Luke’s was incredible and we as a family were so grateful for everything they did for not only him, but for all of us as a family,” he said.

“Everyone who is terminally ill deserves the love and care that St Luke’s can offer.”

At the beginning of last year, Tom started receiving support from St Luke’s to manage his illness at home. At the end of August, he came into the hospice where he spent around seven weeks.

“My grandad was a character and whenever a staff member from St Luke’s was in his room, they always seemed to be laughing and joking," Dillon said.

Tom was able to spend a couple of weeks at home before coming back into our In Patient Centre in October. A couple of days after being readmitted, Tom died at St Luke’s at the end of October 2025.

Dillon said that throughout his time in the hospice, his grandad was not just supported by the nurses and doctors but all the non-clinical staff too.

"The love and care that my grandad received was incredible. The support we also received as a family from St Luke’s was so comforting,” he said.
