Your month to try volunteering and make a difference
Every summer, St Luke’s invites the whole community to Be Part of Something Big – our month-long celebration of volunteering. It’s our way of opening the door a little wider, giving you the chance to explore new roles, meet new people and see the impact you can make by giving your time.
What you can expect during Volunteer Month
Flexible ways to get involved, with one-off roles or regular shifts.

Celebrating Volunteers’ Week: June 1-7, 2026
Be Part of Something Big proudly includes our celebration of Volunteers’ Week – a national moment each year to say thank you. It’s an opportunity to recognise the people who give their time so generously, share their stories and highlight the difference they make.
At St Luke’s, we are supported by hundreds of incredible volunteers. Their commitment helps us continue caring for terminally ill people and their loved ones across Sheffield, both in our Hospice and out in the community. We just couldn’t do what we do without them.

Try volunteering with St Luke’s
Retail and Donation Centre
Explore Retail or Donation Centre Volunteering with us! From helping in one of St Luke’s Sheffield charity shops to sorting pre-loved items at our Donation Centre or supporting our online sales, every role helps turn donations into vital care. Bring a friend along and try volunteering together.
Fundraising and Events
Got a busy schedule? No problem. Our Events and Fundraising roles are flexible and ideal for both individuals and groups. You could join city-wide collections, cheer on runners at the Sheffield 10K, or help at much-loved moments like the Festival of Light. No experience is needed – just enthusiasm to get involved!
Corporate Groups
Looking for a meaningful team day? Our Corporate Volunteering days allow your group to get hands-on in our charity shops or Donation Centre while supporting the local community. It’s a rewarding way to give back, strengthen team spirit and be part of something positive in Sheffield.
NOT SURE WHERE TO START? TRY A TASTER SESSION
If you’d like to try volunteering but aren’t ready to commit during our Volunteer Month, a Taster Session is the perfect introduction. These sessions run all year round and give you the chance to meet our teams, explore roles in our charity shops, Donation Centre and events, and see how St Luke’s volunteering could fit into your routine.
