Protecting the future of hospice care with fairer funding

A statement on Fairer Funding

This year, St Luke’s marks 55 years of caring for patients and families across our city. While we celebrate this milestone, hospices across the UK, including St Luke’s, continue to face unprecedented financial pressures. Many are facing extremely difficult decisions, with some forced to reduce services.

Last week, hospice leaders came together at Hospice UK’s #DayofAction – making the collective voice of the hospice community heard. We are proud to stand with Hospice UK’s Fairer Funding for Hospices campaign in calling for sustainable funding for our vital care.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, St Luke’s has not had to reduce its clinical services or the number of people we support – something which we are incredibly proud of. However we are far from immune to the severe financial pressures affecting the sector. Without long-term, fair funding, hospice care remains at risk.

As we mark our milestone year, we want to thank everyone who continues to support us. We are deeply grateful for your continued support. As a financially responsible charity, we pledge to you that every donation is spent where it matters most: directly supporting patient care and ensuring dignity, comfort and compassion at the end of life for the people of Sheffield.

We will continue to stand with the wider hospice sector in calling for fairer funding - because hospice care is not a luxury. It is essential, and everyone who needs it should be able to access it.
