My monthly donation for Anita - David's story
My wife, Anita, was a wonderful person. She was kind, selfless, caring and compassionate. She enjoyed living life to the full and still had so much to look forward to but was diagnosed with cancer in 2022.
“Anita had been diagnosed with bowel cancer which spread to her liver when she was first referred to St Luke’s Community team.
“She wanted to carry on as normal for as long as she could and with the St Luke’s Community team’s support, that’s what she achieved.
“Anita set herself some goals that she wanted to meet, birthdays of loved ones, Christmas and, most importantly for her, she was determined that she would still be here for the birth of our first grandson, Alfie."
“For the first few days she was at St Luke’s, we were able to have visitors and the most important visitor for her was Alfie.
“By this point, Anita was becoming increasingly weak and she couldn’t hold him, so they laid him by her side, and it was a wonderful moment for all of us.
“We knew what was coming in the last few days and it meant so much that our sons, Jonathan and Christopher, were there with me when their mum died.
“St Luke’s provides such great care for people in despair, and everybody is treated with such dignity and compassion.”
“The whole St Luke’s team makes the patient and their family feel special and loved. You know you have physical support, mental support and emotional support.”
