Hayley Haywood completed a fundraising bungee jump in June this year, raising over £400 for St Luke’s to give back for the care her auntie received.

Hayley’s auntie suffered from a stroke in 2023, and was subsequently diagnosed with cancer. Hayley says she fought with grace, bravery and humour, before spending her final days at St Luke’s in 2026, surrounded by love.

Seeing the care shown to not just her auntie, but the whole family, Hayley says is what motivated her to do something to give back.

“Recently, we said goodbye to our beautiful auntie after the incredible team at St Luke’s Hospice cared for her in her final days,” said Hayley.

“Watching the love and humanity shown by everyone at the hospice left a lasting impact on our family. No words will ever fully explain how much that care meant. During one of the hardest times imaginable, the staff gave not only medical support, but kindness, dignity, comfort and compassion around the clock.”

“From nurses answering endless questions with patience, to staff bringing tea and toast in the early hours of the morning, every small act meant everything,” continued Hayley. “They made sure our auntie was comfortable and treated with such dignity right until the very end, while also caring for the people around her when we needed it most.”

After learning that St Luke’s only receives around a quarter of its funding from the government, and therefore needs to fundraise over £11million each year, Hayley decided she needed to do something to support. That’s when she signed up for the bungee.

“This is my small way of giving something back to a place that gave our family so much during such a heart-breaking time,” she said.

“I hope the money I’ve raised goes towards making a difference and supporting families, like St Luke’s did for our family.”
