Syringe Driver Training

Course description

This is a comprehensive, face-to-face 2 hour Syringe Driver training course focused on the safe and effective use of the Bodyguard T Syringe Driver.

To meet varying training needs, we host separate sessions for:

  • Nurses new to the Bodyguard T device, and those requiring a refresher update

  • Designed for Registered Nurses working in Nursing Homes or Dual Registered Care Homes with Nursing Staff, this course provides practical, hands-on learning alongside key theoretical knowledge.

Participants will develop confidence in setting up, operating, and monitoring the syringe driver, as well as understanding best practice, troubleshooting, and ensuring patient safety in line with current standards.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to

  • Understand the purpose and clinical use of the Bodyguard T Syringe Driver

  • Safely set up and programme the device in line with best practice guidance

  • Demonstrate correct procedures for preparing and administering medication via a syringe driver

  • Monitor patients effectively and identify potential complications

  • Troubleshoot common issues and alarms associated with the device

  • Apply infection prevention and control measures during use

As part of their roles within Project ECHO, they have worked closely with local care homes, nursing homes, and supported living services, helping staff to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to provide high-quality palliative and end-of-life care.
